More info

The date

Fort Victoria was founded on this exact patch of ground in the 1840s, which is either inspiring or unsettling, but the brick lanes standing on it now are lovely. In summer an artisan market fills the square, café patios materialise from every direction, and the move is to amble slowly while pretending to browse the makers' stalls with great intention. Free, central, and walkable in every direction from downtown Victoria.
