Rio Grindhouse Opens Its Gallery on East Broadway
For now, The Rio Grindhouse Gallery Cafe and Bar is open exactly as far as the word "Gallery": that part of 1688 E. Broadway, Vancouver, opened to the public on the evening of Saturday, October 17, 2026, and the rest of the name is expected to catch up in spring. Daily Hive, reporting on October 16, called the gallery stage one, an honest label for a building whose name promises two kinds of drink it cannot yet pour.
Scenes That Steal Themselves opens the gallery
The part that does exist is not holding back: Scenes That Steal Themselves brings 25 artists, among them Kate Armstrong, Lucie Mink, Michael Turner, Thugs Memory, Jennilee Marigomen and Alex Beadle, to a multidisciplinary show on Vancouver's disappearing cultural landscape. So a building that is mostly future has opened with a show about places that are entirely past, which is either coincidence or the most self-aware first booking on East Broadway.
Gallery first, café and bar in spring
The concept was announced last year, the gallery opened on October 17 and the café and bar are expected in spring, which makes the Rio Grindhouse the rare Vancouver cultural space appearing in instalments rather than disappearing in them. Daily Hive's report lists no hours, admission prices or closing date for the show, so check those with the venue before going; the only future date in the report belongs to the coffee.
An evening for two on East Broadway
Going now buys the right to say you knew the Rio Grindhouse when it was only a gallery, one of the few bragging rights that gets better once the café opens. For two, that means an evening with 25 artists now and a standing excuse to come back in spring and order off the rest of the name.
