Elf: The Musical Returns to the Stanley Nov. 12
Every couple has one person who starts quoting Elf the moment the first string of lights goes up, and one person who pretends to find it annoying. Good news for both of you: Arts Club Theatre Company is bringing Elf: The Musical back to the Stanley BFL CANADA Stage on Granville Street from November 12 to December 27, 2026, the Georgia Straight reported on October 26.
Who's in it, and why it's back
Oliver Kadar plays Buddy, the human raised by elves who heads to New York to find his father. The Straight lists Paige Fraser as Jovie, Andrew Wheeler as Walter Hobbs, Sharon Crandall as Emily Hobbs and Tom Pickett as Santa Claus. Stephen Drover returns to direct the production Arts Club first staged in 2023, with 20 cast members, a 10-member children's chorus and seven musicians.
That's 37 people in one show, roughly the size of the group chat it takes to agree on a date for the office party, and much better at harmonies.
Tickets, showtimes and two useful extras
Tickets start at $39 on the Arts Club site. Its schedule runs Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday at 1pm and 7pm, Thursday and Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 1:30pm and 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm, with no Monday shows. The Stanley is at 2750 Granville Street, at 12th Avenue.
Two extras worth knowing. A same-day ticket gets you 15% off food at Arts Club's restaurant partners, so dinner before the show is the thrifty move as well as the romantic one. The theatre notes the production may use flashing lights and haze, and there's a talkback after the Tuesday, December 1 performance for couples who always stay for the credits.
Is it a good date?
It's a sweet, low-stakes holiday date, built for cheerful rather than brooding. With matinees and a children's chorus it's made for all ages, so if you'd like a more grown-up room, we'd pick an evening show. Thursday or Friday at 7:30pm leaves time to eat at one of the partner restaurants first and use that same-day discount.
Afterwards, walk out onto South Granville and see who cracks first and starts humming. If one of you has somehow never seen the film, this is a livelier introduction than the couch. Just know the quoting at home will now run until January.
