A Country Halloween Party at the Commodore Ballroom
If one of you owns cowboy boots and the other has been looking for an excuse, the Commodore Ballroom has your Halloween. JR Country's Boots and Boos Halloween Party runs Saturday, October 31, with doors at 7pm and a lineup of Morgan Griffiths, JaimesonRhy and DJ James T. On the afternoon of October 31 Ticketmaster still had general admission tickets at $44.07 each, fees and taxes included, so two come to $88.14.
Why this one for a date
Most Halloween parties ask you to compete with 1,500 strangers for bar space under a strobe light. A country night at the Commodore is a different animal: two live acts, a DJ between sets and a crowd that came to dance with each other. It starts early, too. Doors at 7pm means you can be in costume, two songs deep and still home at a reasonable hour, which on Halloween counts as a small miracle.
The costume brief writes itself. Western is the obvious play, but the point of Boots and Boos is that nobody will blink at a cowboy vampire. Wear boots you can dance in; the Commodore floor gets used.
The rules on the ticket
No minors: everyone must be 19 or older with valid government ID. The ticket is general admission with limited seating, so if one of you needs to sit, arrive close to doors and claim a spot early. There is a four-ticket limit per buyer, which is fine for a couple and annoying for a group chat that waited until Saturday.
Ticketmaster's listing shows the $44.07 price with fees and taxes already included, so the number at checkout should not jump. Buy through the Commodore's own calendar link, which goes straight to that Ticketmaster page.
How we would plan the night
The Commodore is at 868 Granville Street, a short walk from Granville and Vancouver City Centre stations, and Halloween on Granville is no night to look for parking. Eat first: smash burgers at Monzo on Granville are fast, or settle into wine and cocktails at UVA on Seymour if you want a proper sit-down. If the dance floor wears you out, the Commodore Lanes bowling alley is in the same building.
