Commercial Drive predates the idea that a date needs a budget.
The street grew up as Little Italy and never lost the habit: espresso counters where the machine is older than the barista, delis that will assemble a picnic for less than downtown charges for parking, and a park at the south end with one of the city's best skyline views for exactly zero dollars.
Treat the street itself as the date.
But cheap undersells it. This is one of Vancouver's most alive evening streets: natural wine rooms, live music leaking out of doorways, patios built for a long argument about nothing. Walk it end to end and let the windows make the decisions.
Little Italy roots, East Van soul: espresso counters, patio wine and the best cheap-date street in the city.
The Drive is Vancouver's great equalizer: every budget dates well here. The vetted spots and full plans are below.
