The Cheese and Meat Festival takes over the restored heritage Pipe Shop at the Shipyards for one Saturday, with three ticketed tasting sessions running noon to 8pm. Guests get a complimentary charcuterie board at the door, then work through around 150 curated pairings of cheese, cured meat, wine, beer and cider while the makers themselves stand behind the tables to talk through what you're eating. It is a slow, grazing kind of date built for two people who like to compare notes on every bite. The building is a 9,000-square-foot converted shipbuilding hall on the North Vancouver waterfront, so it runs rain or shine regardless of the September weather outside.
