Wander the Wetlands at Aldergrove Regional Park

A flat wetland loop on the Langley-Abbotsford line where the herons do not care you are here and a summer swimming hole patiently waits.

Aldergrove Regional Park sits right on the Langley-Abbotsford border with the quiet confidence of a place that knows it does not need to try very hard. The Pepin Brook Loop is a mostly flat 3.5 km wander past a creek, ponds and reclaimed gravel-pit wetlands that have gone entirely feral in the best way. Herons, ducks and the occasional beaver dam appear without warning along the path, and a few short hills break the rhythm just enough to keep it interesting. In summer a seasonal swimming hole and big grassy picnic lawns arrive, turning the whole thing into part hike and part lazy afternoon. Free and mercifully quiet on weekdays. Spring and summer give you the birdlife and water at their best. Bring sunscreen for the open meadow sections, where the sun, once it decides to show up for work, is surprisingly direct about it.
