Swim an Alpine Lake at Mystery Lake

Swim an Alpine Lake at Mystery Lake

You haul up 150 metres on Mount Seymour, the lake gives you rock islands to swim to. Fair deal.

Mystery Lake has a name that promises a Netflix thriller and delivers something better: a clear, cold alpine lake on Mount Seymour that you can actually swim in. Getting there requires a real climb, 2.3 km return with 150 metres of gain over roots and loose rock, which is the universe's way of making sure you've earned the cold. The lake sits on a rock floor so the water runs clear, and there are actual little islands in the middle you can swim out to and sun yourselves on like a pair of contented otters. Bring swimsuits, a towel, and snacks for a flat-rock picnic at the shore. May through October is prime season, short enough to pair with more Seymour hiking or to just let it be the whole glorious point of the day.
