Sunwolf sits on five grassy acres in Brackendale where the Cheakamus and Cheekye rivers meet, and it has resisted every modern temptation except good plumbing. The thirteen cabins come with handmade pine furniture, a kitchenette with a full size stove and mini fridge, in some cases a gas fireplace, and no television whatsoever, which means you will have to talk to each other. That, it turns out, is the whole point.
The masterstroke is Fergie's Cafe, the on site brunch institution open daily from 9 to 3 and voted best breakfast by Squamish locals every year since 2015. You shuffle thirty seconds from your cabin door to an eggs benedict of real consequence, then retreat to the riverbank to reconsider your life choices. Most guests reconsider them in Fergie's favour and come back the next morning.
In winter, Brackendale hosts one of North America's great gatherings of bald eagles, and the rivers around the property fill with them like commuters. In summer there is the communal fire pit, the rush of glacier fed water, and Coast Mountain views in every direction. Pack for romance, but know that the eagles have seen absolutely everything before.
The setting
On five acres in Brackendale at the confluence of the Cheakamus and Cheekye rivers, about ten minutes' drive north of downtown Squamish and roughly three miles from Alice Lake Provincial Park.
Getting there
Highway 99 north from Vancouver, about an hour of Sea to Sky scenery with zero ferries to book. Follow signs off the highway to Squamish Valley Road in Brackendale; parking is on site. Car-free is impractical out here, so bring the car and lose the phone signal gracefully.
