Pemberton is a farming town that decided to have exactly one proper hotel, and to its credit it did the thing thoroughly. All 85 rooms at the Pemberton Valley Lodge are suites, from studios to two bedrooms, with full kitchens, fireplaces and in-suite laundry, which means you can burn your own toast while gazing at Mount Currie, a mountain so large it appears to be leaning in to check.

Outside there is a heated outdoor pool, a hot tub and a steam room, plus a fleet of complimentary loaner bikes for wobbling into the village, which contains roughly one of everything. The lodge is also earnestly dog friendly, to the point of offering a dedicated We Heart Dogs package, which is more hospitality than some humans receive.

Google holds it at 4.1 stars over roughly 718 reviews, and the recurring themes are clean rooms, comfortable beds and staff who appear to genuinely enjoy their jobs. Golfers can bolt a round at Big Sky onto any room from about $100 a person, and in quieter seasons a third night free deal surfaces like a rebate from the weather.

The setting

On Highway 99 at the entrance to Pemberton village, about 20 minutes north of Whistler, with downtown Pemberton a short pedal away and Mount Currie filling the southern sky.

Getting there

Drive Highway 99, the Sea to Sky, from Vancouver: roughly 160 km and 2 to 2.5 hours, with zero ferries in the plan. Free underground parking on site. Car-free is workable: bus to Whistler, then BC Transit's Route 99 Pemberton Commuter, about 37 minutes on a commuter-shaped schedule.

good to know

Summer weekends book out well ahead, so reserve early for July and August. Watch for the third night free promotion in slower months, and note golf packages exclude the power cart unless added.
