How we report Vancouver news

Date Spark covers Greater Vancouver openings, culture and things worth making plans around. The useful part is what to do with the news: how it fits a date, what needs booking, and where to go next.

Sources before sentences

We look for leads in Daily Hive Dished, Scout Magazine, Vancouver Is Awesome and other local reporting, then check facts against organizers, venues and official announcements. Reported openings are attributed and distinguished from confirmed open venues. We never treat a publisher photograph as permission to reuse it. Each story links its sources and shows when we checked them. We do not claim to have attended, interviewed or tasted something we have not. Schedules and availability can change after publication.

AI assistance, honestly labelled

Claude Haiku assists with research and writing. Automated checks and a separate AI review compare drafts with source material before publication. This is not the same as independent human reporting, and those checks can miss mistakes. The Date Spark team is responsible for this site and corrections. Humour belongs in the commentary; dates, prices and practical facts stay plain.

Photography and updates

Photographs show the actual venue, event or subject and carry a source credit. A venue photograph does not imply we attended the event. We check morning, midday and late afternoon, with an evening recovery sweep. We publish up to three spaced stories daily, only when we have useful news with supportable facts and a relevant image. We do not change publication dates simply to make an older story look new.

Corrections

Send the article URL and the fact that needs checking to hello@datespark.ca. Substantive corrections get an updated date and a note in the article. Paid placements, if introduced, will be labelled; they do not buy a recommendation.
